Teacher Reimbursements

Teacher reimbursements is used to reimburse teachers for out-of-pocket costs for things for their class and classroom. This year, we did not do payback books. We are in an oversaturated market, and it was feeling like more of a chore rather than exciting. Instead, we did restaurant night fundraisers. For reimbursements for next year, we will do less fundraisers, only Chuck E. Cheese, Burgerville, and possibly Syrup Trap. These seem to be the most attended. We wanted to do less, so it seems less overwhelming. Motions were brought forward to set a minimum and maximum per teacher amount.

$150/teacher minimum vote: Approved

$225/teacher maximum vote: Approved

Scholastic Book Fair:

This year, we had an onsite bookfair. All proceeds go to the librarian, so she can bring new books to the library. This year, our profits were $2800. We have seen that we have a need for more multi lingual books in our library. Motion has been brought to spend $800 out of the $2800 book fair profit to buy Spanish and Russian books to add in the library.

$800 vote: Approved

Judit, FCRC, has a connection that can get us Chuukese authored books. These books would be in both English and Chuukese, so all kids can read them.

Question: What is Chuukese? Pacific Islands

Motion brought forth to spend $400 on Chuukese authored books to be added to library

Vote: Approved

Mrs. Fielding is in the process of weeding out old and unpopular books, to make room for the new. She is wanting to hold a presentation of the new books, so that all students are aware of what and where these new books are.

4th/5th Grade Basketball

Last general meeting, we voted on spending $1200 to pay for Basketball, since it is not district funded this year. Hopefully slated to start first week of February. Andrea is working with us to find dates that do not correlate with other clubs and programs. We are also working with the office on how to put it in the permission slip that it is LPSG funded, and not the district.

Holiday Market:

Was well received by kids! It has become an awesome pillar of the holiday season. This year, LPSG spent almost $600 on scholarships (from parent donations and leftover scholarships from last year). All Saints normally donates money to help with scholarships, but they had just donated to us the previous month (for a scholarship fund for all other events) and did not have the resources to donate for the market. We are bringing forward a motion to vote to use $600 from the profits from Loger Laps to be available annually to allow scholarships. Loger Laps is the most profitable event that we have, and does not have anything presently attached to the proceeds.

Vote to have $600 from Logger Laps to be allocated to Holiday Market scholarships:

Approved

LPSG would like to motion using the remaining Logger Laps profit to go towards Teacher Reimbursement fund, up to the newly voted on Teacher Reimbursement max

Vote: Approved

Upcoming Events:

Logger Laps: Ran by LPSG. Occurs last full week of April. Students get sponsored or get flat donations. All students, whether they get donations or not, can run/walk/jog, etc. to earn prizes. Looking into the possibility of bringing water out there and paper cups out there.

Cultural Night: happens in May and is put on by the school. It is tied into 3rd grade expectations and standards. One of tonight's attendees has a connection to a fire dances. She is reaching out to him to see if he is available, and if so, will work with the school to decide if it is possible.

Staff Appreciation: Happens in May. Weeklong event where we spoil our teachers and staff. Julie used to lead, but this year, Skyla is. This is an event where we need a ton of help to put on and to seek out donations.

End of Year BBQ: Happens on the last day of school. Nutritional Services supplied some of the lunch last year, while LPSG supplied the rest. Nicole is leading this event. Ideas have started to be talked about, but nothing set in stone yet.

FCRC Report – Judit Torrents

Principal Williams not able to attend tonight's meeting.

Science night is January 29th.  The Oregon Reptile Man is coming! Light dinner, nothing fancy.

We need Volunteers for Makers Space! If anyone is interested, please contact Judit.

Reminder about apps that Lincoln and the district uses. Parent Square and ParentVue. ParentVue has grades and report cards. 5th Grade also uses it for Programs of choice, such as VSAA

Every year, Jennalee and Judit runs an evening preschool. If anyone has registering Kinders coming in next year, these dates are April 14th – May 13th from 3-4:30 pm. This event is free! The program ends in a family night. Ms. Mona is the para that helps as well. More information will be sent out soon.

Raffle:

Julie Taylor and Tristan Lacey won the raffle for a $5 Drip Coffee gift card each.

Meeting adjourned: 6:50 pm

General Meeting - November 14th, 2024

General Meeting ** 11-14-24

Lincoln Library ** 5:30 pm

  • Board Introductions

  •  LPSG stands for Lincoln Parent Staff Group. Everyone is welcomed, encouraged, and wanted to be here.

  •  Co-Positions are available for all positions

  •  Treasurers Report -

Checking account - $17282.37 Savings account - $10,033.78

Makers Bazaar budget is $100, Holiday Market budget is $2000

  •  Teacher Reimbursement Program -

Reimbursements are paid out per teacher, not per student. That changed with the last board. Fundraiser nights go to Teacher Reimbursement Fund. Might need to look into doing something different. Parent brought up that Chuck E Cheese fundraiser was hard to go to because of the book fair being the same day.

  •  Book Fair -

Book fair ran the week of conferences. Could not use the library, because of no full-time librarian to keep an eye on things. Also, because room 101 has exterior door to help keep traffic out of the school. All funds go back to the library. Ms. Fielding is new librarian. She is looking forward to diversifying our library book shelf.

  •  4-5 Grade Sports -

VSD has cancelled 4th and 5th grade basketball and volleyball. Huge loss for our students. Parent, Amanda Wong, has volunteered to help us bring back basketball, as it is a little too late to do volleyball. Franklin was able to get funding for both sports. We would need about $1,200 to pay for basketball coaches. There was some talk about including 3rd graders this year, but we think that may not be the best option, as the school district is hoping to be able to fund it next year, so we want to keep it equitable, and not allow only one year of 3rd graders, when all prior, and possibly all future 3rd graders would not get that same option. Fee’s - maybe doing an optional donation, instead of mandatory. Pizza party at the end of the season, with awards put on by Amanda. Basketball season is the end of January through March. Coaches would be Jennalee Garcia Montero (Kindergarten teacher, LPSG President, and the basketball coach for the last 8 years), and Amanda Wong. Amanda has put in a request with McMenamins for a fundraiser night to pay for the coaches, but we have not heard back yet.

-Motion brought forward to approve or deny the LPSG paying for basketball coaches in case we do not get approved for our restaurant night

-Passed

  • Scholarships -

LPSG and Lincoln partners with 2 local churches, Trinity Lutheran and All Saints. All Saints came up with $450 out of their funds and wants to gift it LPSG to start a scholarship line item, to help fund students who need financial help attending/participating in our events. Every time LPSG puts on an event, scholarships are always available. Those have historically come from the LPSG’s pocket. This would help fund those students from a preset line item.

- Motion brought forward to approve or deny a scholarship line item being added to LPSG budget

-Passed

  • Zeffy -

Zeffy is an online platform that can be used for fundraising, tickets, etc. Currently using stripe. We have a 2.5% fee from stripe. Zeffy is free of charge for non-profits. No fee. When you check out, Zeffy does ask for a donation, but you can opt out of that. We worry about people not paying close enough attention, and donating unintentionally. We would be sure to put on all flyers, that the donation is optional.

- Motion brought forward to approve or deny the LPSG trying Zeffy out.

-Passed

  • Upcoming Events -

  1. Makers Bazaar is next week. Flyers were sent out 3 weeks ago, and social media and Parent Square flyers have been sent.

  • Judit with FCRC Report -

  1. FCRC is a program that provides student and family support. She works closely with the LPSG.

  2. New change of staff:

Ms. Bizeau got hired at Hough Elementary. PBIS is now being subbed by Mr. Ephraim until Ms. Brandenburg comes back from maternity leave.

Principal Report: Ms. Williams intends to come to most general meetings to give a principal's report. We just received a new Kindergarten teacher, Crystal McCallister. As of this week, a new teacher has been brought in for 3rd grade, to lessen the student/teacher ratio. Right now, there is a long-term sub in 4th grade to cover Alexis Altrichter’s maternity leave, but there is a possibility that that sub might be changed to another.

Conference night is coming up. Teachers will have class and grade specific volunteer opportunities. Examples of opportunities will be helping stuff go home folders, helping kids with flash cards, and production needs. The new librarian might also have some things that she needs help with, like shelving books, since she is only at Lincoln part time. Jenny Grimaldi made a comment that she helped last year with organizing the supply closet.

FCRC Report – Judit Torrents

Judit is Lincolns FCRC staff. She helps support Students and their families. She provides basic support to Lincoln families. She also works closely with the LPSG.

Please be on the lookout for emails and monthly newsletters that ask for volunteers. She is specifically looking for people who are able to be a lunch buddy. A lunch buddy is someone who comes to have lunch and spend recess with a student who is preferably not their child. The more the merrier, as the list of students who benefit from this program is big, while the adult volunteer list is small.

Judit also received a rather large used book donation, that Judit might be needing help to either stock a shelf outside the building, or to place in Little Libraries around the neighborhood.

This year's events – Jennalee Garcia-Montero

Staff have come out in full force to help lead some of our events!

The Scholastic book fair: Coming up on October 14-18. It will be housed in room 101. We are looking for volunteers to help kids shop and check out.

Family Restaurant nights: Chuck E. Cheese is coming up on October 18th. We are looking for volunteers to stand at the door to help promote. Hoping to find a volunteer to wear our mascot costume, Linc, to also help promote.

Craft Fair: Scheduled for November 16th at Trinity Lutheran Church. This is a profit event, that helps promote entrepreneurship. We are looking for volunteers to help plan this event.

Lincoln Lights: Last year, the Lincoln Lights was a quickly planned event. This year, there will be more planning involved. 1st grade teacher, Kristin Andre is the lead on this event. Looking for volunteers to help plan and set up this fun event.

Holiday Market: All loggers get to shop with volunteers for their families. This year, we are using a company to supply product. All Saints supplies Lincoln with fundraised money for kids who do not bring money from home, so all kids get to shop. We are looking for quite a lot of volunteers to help the kids shop and check out.

Logger Laps: Last week of April. For profit event that promotes exercise. 4 days (M-Th) with the top running class being presented the golden award at the Assembly on Friday. Prizes handed out the next week. Looking for volunteers to help plan this event, and also to be a sign holder (holding up encouraging signs while the kids run/jog/walk/skip etc.) and to help collect popsicle sticks used to count laps.

Culture Night: May 1st. Last year was a quickly planned pop up event. Trying to do more planning this year, since it was a big hit last year. Last year, 8 different cultures were celebrated in 2 hours. There were crafts, projects, food, dancing, and more! 3rd grade students have a heavy participation in this event. Looking for volunteers to help set up and man stations at the event.

Staff Appreciation: May 5-9th. Week-long event to help spoil our staff. We usually don't get enough volunteers for this event, so this year we are hoping for more. Looking for Volunteers to help plan, set up, look for donations, etc.

End of year BBQ: Last day of school. Jen Ward has been our fabulous volunteer lead the last few years. Last year, we had Nutritional Services supply most of the food, which helped keep the event easy. Planning on using them again this year. We are looking for volunteers to help organize event, set up, and hand out food.

5th Grade Graduation: Requires major fundraising, as the LPSG only provides $600. Looking for volunteers to help plan, set up, and look for donations from the community. You would be working directly with our 5th Grade teachers.

Questions/Comments:

We were asked about getting cleared by the district to volunteer. All volunteers must be cleared by the district. It usually takes less than 48 hours after submitting form, to be approved. Please email Julie at vc@lpsgvancouver.com for more information about getting cleared to volunteer.

We were asked about time constraints when it comes to volunteering. Most events take at most, 2-3 meetings with the committee to plan things out. After that, it just depends on what tasks you take on. We welcome anybody to volunteer. Even if it's just for an hour. Every minute of volunteering helps!

Linda Pickering brought up that the Talent show is a go for this year. Linda and Lisa Mackintosh are heading that committee. Date TBD. Please look out for more info on that event, and what volunteers may be needed.

Judit Torrents brought up that we are in need of volunteers for Lincoln’s Makers Space. This involves working directly with students during their recess to make fun crafts. Look out for more info for volunteer needs.

Thank you to everyone who came!

Meeting end time: 6:30 pm
