Lincoln Teachers and Staff

Welcome to the 2019/20 School Year!

About

The Lincoln Parent Teacher Organization (PTO) board, Lincoln Parent-Staff Group (LPSG), would like to welcome you back to another great school year! Our PTO is unique in that all parents/guardians of Lincoln students and Lincoln staff (that’s YOU!) are automatically LPSG members and there are no financial dues/fees required to participate.

Goals
2019/20

We are looking forward to working with you and your students as we support and host Lincoln programs and events. This year we want to make efforts to foster the relationship between the LPSG board and Lincoln teachers and staff. We want to improve and encourage more frequent and open communication between us. Already, we’ve improved our website (www.lpsgvancouver.com) to include a calendar, contact information, activity updates, and articles highlighting the stories of Lincoln students, staff, teachers, and families. We’ve also instituted a subscription based email system for LPSG updates, reminders, and announcements. These steps should make it easier for you to contact us and for you to keep track of all that’s going on with the LPSG.

Subscribe

Families will be encouraged to use these online services as we make an effort to ‘go green’ this year, by conserving paper, ink, energy, and time. We want to decrease the number of handouts and flyers that go home with students, while also making it easier for parents to find the information they need and want, in places they are already present (Facebook, texting, Remind app, email, etc). We hope you can champion this effort by subscribing to the LPSG Newsletter yourself and also by encouraging parents/guardians to subscribe:

Attend

This year we’d like to personally invite you to at least one (or more) of our bi-monthly general meetings. At the meetings we discuss recent topics, provide new information and updates on upcoming events and fundraisers, and bring everyone up-to-date on current programs and financials. We hold about 6 general meetings bi-monthly on Tuesdays, starting September, 6:30-7:30pm, in the Lincoln Elementary Library. Visit our website, www.lpsgvancouver.com, for the meeting dates and times for the rest of the year.

We hold about 6 general meetings bi-monthly on the first Tuesday, starting September 3, 6:30-7:30pm, in the Lincoln Elementary Library.

Teacher Stipends

For those new to Lincoln this year, you may not know that it has been a tradition of the LPSG to donate a portion of fundraising events each year to teachers in order to support and help offset the costs of your classrooms. Teachers are given a dollar amount and are then able to make purchases throughout the year up to that dollar amount and submit with original receipts and a reimbursement form to the LPSG treasurer. In an attempt to make things as streamlined as possible for our current and future board members, we are in the process of figuring out a few things. You can help us by filling out the teacher survey and telling us a little about how much you depend on the stipend (if at all) and the amount and timeline that would most benefit you.

First Fundraiser

The LPSG hosts/coordinates fundraising opportunities for the general LPSG fund and others for specific needs. Teacher stipends come out of the general LPSG fund which is funded in part by the first fall fundraiser this year. In the 2018/19 school year it was decided to discontinue the traditional fall cookie dough fundraiser and opt for a Payback Books fundraiser instead. We have decided to continue it again this year, starting it almost as soon as the first day of school or sometime in the second week and ending around the end of September. We are currently waiting to hear back on exact dates from the Payback Books owner. Please stay tuned for a separate email with information to be coming to you on that as soon as we have it!

Teacher Appreciation Book

New this year, we are putting together a Teacher Appreciation book that can be accessed easily all year by our Lincoln families. The goal is to included teacher details like birthdays, favorite coffee shops, amazon wish lists (for personal or classroom), etc. Many times parents want to do something special for their child’s teacher but they just don’t know what to do and/or feel awkward asking directly. This will give all of us a better idea how to care for each of you in a way that really fills desires you actually have! Please stay tuned for more follow up with us on that. Thank you!

Every year the goals/focus of the LPSG will change because every year we welcome new families into the school, and parent involvement varies year to year. The below is a list of the planned activities based on the parents/guardians currently willing to spearhead them for the 2019/20 school year:
