Did you know?
The current Lincoln interior classroom doors only lock from outside the classroom. This means that in the event of an actual intruder emergency, a teacher must quickly and safely gather all students inside the classroom, then go back outside the classroom, lock the door using a key, and then re-enter the classroom where students are and shut the door.
When seconds can be the difference between life and death, this is not an acceptable solution for creating a quick and reliable way to prevent an intruder from entering the classroom. Furthermore, simply locking the door doesn’t ensure that the lock cannot be compromised and door opened with a gun shot.
Good News!
An Iowa teacher has invented a device that can be installed in seconds to keep dangerous threats out of the classroom. It is called the Sleeve. The Sleeve simply slides onto the door’s arm on the inside of the classroom and secures the door shut. Sliding the Sleeve onto the door’s arm takes a few seconds - much quicker and much more effective than locking the door. It keeps the teacher in the same room as the students during the emergency; not requiring the teacher to leave the room to secure the door. The Sleeve has been featured on NBC news as well as the Huffington Post and other news outlets.
Petition & Pledges
The LPSG is willing to make each classroom safe by securing pledges from parents, teachers, and staff for the purchase of The Sleeve. A small pledge of $5-$10 by a few people per classroom would be enough to make each classroom immediately safe from outside threats.
The cost per Sleeve is $94 including shipping. The owner of Fighting Chance Solutions has indicated a reduced price if we ordered The Sleeve in bulk.
